February was a pretty eventful month for me but, for the most part, I used a lot of the same products I always do. I do have a couple beauty favorites I wanted to share with you and then a couple non beauty favorites at the end as well.
Finally getting around to an update on last month’s Ipsy bag. I wanted to have enough time to try all of the products and my next Ipsy bag has shipped so I figured this was a good time to update everyone. If you don’t know what Ipsy is it’s a monthly $10 subscription bag that sends you usually 5 different luxury sample and full sized beauty products to try. You take a little quiz that helps them tailor products to you. I love it, it’s like Christmas every month. If you want to check out my initial thoughts on December’s products then click here. And now onto the actual products.
It’s like Christmas came early! If you don’t know what Ipsy is then you can click here for their website but basically it’s a monthly, $10 beauty subscription bag usually filled with 5 different hair, makeup, skincare, etc. products. If you don’t have it and you want it (it’s pretty amazing, like Christmas every month) then you can click here. Alright, now on to the good stuff.
The bag this month was black with a berry zipper with a berry inside as well. There was a little heart on the zipper. The material is smooth and will probably clean up very easily if you plan on using it for a makeup bag. It looks pretty plain but it would match with a lot of different purses, wallets, etc. The quality feels pretty good and I like the berry zipper so I’m not complaining.
I wanted to start right off with a review. A couple Ipsy bags ago I got a sample of Perversion Mascara by Urban Decay. As this mascara is usually $22 off of Urban Decay’s actual site I was very excited to try it.
Let’s start off with what it is and what I think about it. I’ll include some pictures with the product on my eyelashes toward the end. The packaging is sleek and dark, I actually really like it. The brush is fantastic. One of the bristly kind with quite a few, fairly long bristles. I always feel like they add more volume and separation to my lashes which is odd because the one problem I have with this is the separation. The formula is very creamy and dark.
I watched a couple people on Youtube talk about this and how they didn’t like it so I thought I was going to hate it. I actually really like it though. I like the packaging and the brush quite a lot. I usually like a little bit drier of a formula but this one works pretty well to add some length and a little volume. It holds a curl pretty well and actually stays on my eyes for a pretty long time. I usually get waterproof everything because everything that I put on my eyes usually moves around so I was surprised that this one stayed so well. I’m not a huge fan of it on my bottom lashes. It stays okay but I have ones that stay better and have smaller brushes that are easier to use on those lashes.
I would say that my complaints would be a lack of volume and also separation, which kind of go hand in hand. As you’ll see in the pictures, this mascara can kind of make your lashes look spider leggy. Usually if I brush through my lashes a bit, it helps a lot and makes them look a lot better. It doesn’t layer too well with itself. The more you put on the more spider leggy it looks. I do sometimes like to put another mascara underneath it and just a small coat of this on top, that’s usually how I get my best results.
Overall it’s a pretty good mascara and some days I think it looks great if I do it right. I don’t think that, for me, it’s quite worth the $22. It ends up looking pretty dramatic on me, when I add eyeliner and brush it out right, which means I’ll only use it for certain special occasions. I’ve enjoyed using the sample that I got but don’t plan on buying more of it. Overall I give it a 6.5 out of 10. What are your favorite mascaras? I’m always on the hunt for a really great one.
